Each Bead is about 6mm in diameter. There are about 80 beads on this 20 inch long strand. These beads have a finish that looks like sea glass, but they are made from recycled consumer glass such as soda bottles.
These beads are from the Fair Trade Group eShopAfrica. They are based in Accra, Ghana, West Africa. Their aim is to create sustainable businesses for traditional African artisans.
eShopAfrica is registered in Ghana as an export company promoting the products from the non-traditional sector. They are an ethical business and their profits are reinvested in the artisan community to help them grow their business. Where possible they seek out products from the least developed sectors of society such as artisan groups and community organisations.
These beads were made by Oklah Tetteh. He is 32 years old. and lives in a village called Obawale Tsebi in Manya Krobo, which located in the Eastern Region of Ghana. He was born into a Krobo family with a long history of bead-making.
He uses a wide variety of coloured glass which is sent to him from all over West Africa. Most glass is from consumer items such as soda bottles and food jars. These are hand made items - all measurements may vary slightly
