COMPARTE's mission is to improve the lives of economically struggling workshops and artisan groups throughout Chile by promoting and exporting the handicrafts they design and create, as well as working with the artists to improve their business practices and continually develop new products that stay true to their traditions.
Promotion and Export
In Chile today, individual artists and small workshops face significant challenges in finding international markets and exporting their products, on top of the difficulties of promoting and distributing their work domestically. COMPARTE currently works with more than 400 artisan groups and exports to nearly 30 countries around the world, helping these artisans to overcome these challenges and bring premium Chilean handicrafts to the world. We act as a proactive link between these diverse artist groups, and the distinct international markets where we work through various distribution channels to access the consumers who will purchase and appreciate these unique products. A key aspect of COMPARTE's our continuing success in this role is our commitment to Total Client Service. COMPARTE understands that our customers have demanding clients, and success requires total commitment from every party along the supply chain. We are also proud of the outstanding reputation we hold within the Chilean artisan and business community, based on the quality of the services we provide and our long tradition of fair trade. The prices we pay our artisans are determined by the artisans. By purchasing from COMPARTE, importers, distributors and retailers bring high-quality, unique and attractive items to local markets, while at the same time improving the living conditions of our producers by paying fair prices and stimulating justice in the workplace of the developing world.
Technical Assistance
In addition to our promotion and export activities, COMPARTE also partners with other Chilean assistance programs to work with the artisans to improve their business management skills and production processes. For example, we help workshops identify potential cost savings through increased efficiency in operations, materials management and inventory planning. While we make a special effort to improve the productivity and competitiveness of the workshops, these changes never lead to the exploitation of labor such as the reduction of worker wages, dangerous or unhealthy working conditions. It is because of this long-standing commitment to the principles of fair trade that COMPARTE has grown so successfully.
Product Development
COMPARTE's Design Center seeks to satisfy the increasing demands of our international clients by providing interactive design opportunities via special orders for new products or requests to modify existing ones. This allows our customers, who are closest to the needs and preferences of their diverse markets, to collaborate with our artists, creating better markets for their work. Our periodic Product Development Workshops are in-depth projects during which COMPARTE pairs a professional designer with select artists over a period of time to create a new product line or explore improvements to existing products. These product development processes will always happen in harmony with the producers' product capabilities, work traditions, and the artisans' desire to innovate and express their creativity. COMPARTE adds value to this process by integrating the needs of our client with the skills and energy of our beneficiaries, the artists, so that both parties derive maximum benefit from the partnership.
By integrating these four key activities - promotion, export, technical assistance and product development - COMPARTE improves the living conditions of Chilean artisans, while the world enjoys the craftsmanship of their products.
